San Fernando is a coastal municipality in the island province of Romblon.

The municipality has a land area of 196.87 square kilometers or 76.01 square miles which constitutes 12.84% of Romblon’s total area. Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 23,271. This represented 7.95% of the total population of Romblon province, or 0.79% of the overall population of the MIMAROPA region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 118 inhabitants per square kilometer or 306 inhabitants per square mile.

Demographics
Population by age group
According to the 2015 Census, the age group with the highest population in San Fernando is 10 to 14, with 3,038 individuals. Conversely, the age group with the lowest population is 75 to 79, with 322 individuals.

Combining age groups together, those aged 14 and below, consisting of the the young dependent population which include infants/babies, children and young adolescents/teenagers, make up an aggregate of 36.92% (8,591). Those aged 15 up to 64, roughly, the economically active population and actual or potential members of the work force, constitute a total of 56.38% (13,121). Finally, old dependent population consisting of the senior citizens, those aged 65 and over, total 6.70% (1,559) in all.

The computed Age Dependency Ratios mean that among the population of San Fernando, there are 65 youth dependents to every 100 of the working age population; there are 12 aged/senior citizens to every 100 of the working population; and overall, there are 77 dependents (young and old-age) to every 100 of the working population.

The median age of 21 indicates that half of the entire population of San Fernando are aged less than 21 and the other half are over the age of 21.

Historical population
The population of San Fernando grew from 10,659 in 1960 to 23,271 in 2015, an increase of 12,612 people. The latest census figures in 2015 denote a positive growth rate of 0.67%, or an increase of 805 people, from the previous population of 22,466 in 2010.

Location
The municipal center of San Fernando is situated at approximately 12° 18′ North, 122° 36′ East, in the island of Sibuyan. Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 4.8 meters or 15.6 feet above mean sea level.
